Through The Lens bio picture

Hello!

We're Josh and Kenny, a husband and wife wedding photography team out of Las Vegas. We'd like you to get to know us a bit better so! Josh likes Star Wars a little bit too much, I love reality tv a little bit too much. Josh is a tshirt and jeans kind of guy, I live in heels. I love emotions and colors to overwhelm my photos, Josh loves beautiful, romantic photos. Josh is my ying to my yang, and we both wouldn't have it any other way. To us photography is not only our bread and butter, it's also what we live and breathe, photography truly moves us. Everywhere we look, we see emotions and movements that should be captured. We are so excited you have stopped by. Here you will get a greater glimpse of what we love to do and how we do it. Take a little peek into what's going with us, and our wonderful clients. Our blog is for us to share our photography with our friend, clients, and family. We fell in love with photography, now we hope you do too.

Can We Get A Do Over?

I think it’s called a mulligan? We officially suck at blogging! Let’s start fresh, why don’t we? While we haven’t blogging, we have been shooting a ton in the meantime. I’ve even branched out into the wonderful world of seniors, families, and (GULP) newborns. I’ve been itching to show it off, so therefore I’m reaffirming our commitment to this blog. The weddings we have shot this year are just too amazing to not share. I promise to be less talky and show what we do best, gorgeous couples in love…

In the mean time, here’s a couple of things that have happened:

1. We adopted a lug of a dog named Buddy.

He is adorable, exasperating, fiercely loyal, and a lover of all shoes (Grrr!).

2. We celebrated our 4th year of marriage. Here’s a secret: It keeps getting better!

3. We renovated our old little home. New paint, all new wood floors, and and new furniture. Yipeee! Pictures to come soon!

4. We rediscovered our love of photography! As artists it’s easy to get into a rut. To start using the same poses, same light etc. but Josh and I renewed our “vows” with photography so to speak, and are now pushing ourselves even further to just get better, and better.

5. We shot Ah-mazing weddings and lots of them!!! From a Vietnamese tea ceremony to a lavish affair at Green Valley Ranch, we’ve been busy shooting gorgeous couples, venues, and hobnobbing it with the wedding guests. So much fun!!!

So on that note, sneak peek anyone?

Engagement: Tiffany & Brandon

Wow! Where has time gone by? We’re getting into our fall busy season and are gearing up for some really great weddings and a few changes that we’re excited to bring to our clients! But first I have to gush about our upcoming bride and groom, Tiffany and Brandon.

When we met Tiffany she explained to us that Brandon is in the military. Confession: Josh and I don’t have any family members in the military. We really don’t even know anyone that’s close to us that’s in the military. We both respect the everyday people that are out there keeping the United States safe, but meeting Brandon, and seeing how much in love Tiffany and Brandon are, and how they didn’t let go of each other, it really hit home. The sacrifices that not only the people in the military make, but the sacrifices that the people they love and who love them make as well. Wow. Thank you Tiffany and Brandon for reinforcing the many reasons that our soldiers and the people who love them are truly unique and extraordinary. We can’t wait until the wedding (it’s only 3 days away!!!).

Tiffany and Brandon met in middle school, so we went back to their old stomping grounds where love originally blossomed. It was Tiffany’s idea, and I adored it for it’s originality.

Gorgeous!!!

Attention all current clients and future clients of The Cohens

Hello,
This is Josh, as 2011 aporaches looking back we have had a fantastic year with tons of awesome brides and grooms. We have had some beautiful weddings, and we are looking forward to more beautiful weddings for the fall. After talking with lots of clients and vendors we have found that we are in need of altering our pricing to reflect our quality of work. This does mean that there will be a small rise in our current pricing. How does this affect you as a current or potential client? Please read on:

As of August 1st all new clients will receive the new pricing information.
If you are currently a client and have not signed a contract you will have until September 1, 2010 to lock in the current pricing. To do so you must remit a signed contract and retainer before September 1st.
After September 1st all clients that have not opted to lock in the current rates will default to the 2011 pricing.
If you have already signed a contract for either 2010 or 2011 no worries, you will remain on the pricing listed on the contract you signed!

If you have any questions regarding the new changes please feel free to call or email me at any time.

Thank you,

A Leap Of Faith…

Doubt. It plagues me sometimes before a shoot or a wedding. As artists I think all photographers occasionally find ourselves doubting our abilities and our creativity. It happens. Whenever I start doubting myself though (especially when I’m about to shoot something that is unfamiliar or unknown), I let a little prayer out. “Dear God, let me deliver on my unspoken promise to be the best I can be” and really? Isn’t that a prayer that we all send out occasionally as husbands, wives, daughters, sons, and especially mothers?

A little over a week ago, I did a maternity shoot for my good friend, Christina. I had asked her to volunteer since I, by no means, am an expert on maternity photos. Give me a girl and a boy in a white dress and a black tux, and I’ll rock it out! But a beautiful pregnant woman and a man who loves her about to embark on the great journey that life has to offer? I was ready to upchuck from nerves. All I knew was that Christina and Bobby had given me their trust, their faith to take some beautiful images, and I took that trust, mixed it in with some moxie, took a deep breathe and did my best.

In honor of all the mothers in the world, I give this gift to you Christina. Happy Mothers Day!

You know all those cliches about pregnant women having this beautiful “glow” (which by the way I try to recreate by spending a ton of money on makeup and yeah doesn’t work!), Christina’s got it!

I mean really got it!

I asked Christina if Bobby, her husband, and her stepson, Ryan, would mind joining us. While maternity photos are usually all about mom, I loved capturing the “family” as well.

My idea of a modern family portrait:

Phuong-Anh & Simon=Hitched

What can I say about Phuong-Anh and Simon? Other than that they are amazingly wonderful people that are surrounded by equally wonderful friends and family. Phuong-Anh and Simon made Josh and I feel so welcomed on their wedding day. They made us feel part of their amazing friends and family. Their wedding consisted of a gorgeous day full of love and laughter, but one part  really stuck in my head Simon’s father got up and gave a toast. In his toast he mentioned that a wedding is only one day, and he requested that Phuong-Anh and Simon remember that it’s the normal day to day actions that make a marriage full of love. It was such a simple and beautiful message that I think every couple should be reminded of from time to time, including Josh and I.

The day began and ended at The Venetian on the Strip. Makeup was done by the talented, Sarah Vickrey and the amazing flowers were created by Janis Pollen. Josh and I love to work with Sarah. She’s insanely talented and fast! Two traits that we love :)

We then all traveled to Lake Las Vegas for a first look and portraits before the ceremony. Phuong-Anh and Simon were having a late afternoon ceremony at Guardian Angel Cathedral, and agreed to do a first look so we had maximum time for photographs instead of trying to fit a ton of photographs after the ceremony and before sunset. We really recommend first looks to all of our brides and grooms that are limited in time and light.

Phuong-Anh and Simon’s bridal party were so much fun and very relaxed.

Guardian Angel is such a pretty church and very conveniently located right on Las Vegas Blvd next to the Wynn.

So back in December, Phuong-Anh and Simon invited us to appetizers at their reception location, Bouchon Bistro, inside the Venetian. Josh and I were blown away by how incredibly tasty everything was. Dining at Bouchon’s is an experience. Their wedding reception was no different. The reception patio was beautiful, the food was amazing, and the staff was incredibly nice. It definitely made for a wonderful evening. We would recommend contacting Annie (the private dining sales manager) if you would like to inquire about having your wedding reception there!

The toasts were amazing at this wedding. They had me and everybody else in tears!

And the night for us ended with a slice of yummy cake!

Thank you again for Phuong-Anh and Simon for sharing a peek of your amazing lives together with Josh and I. We’re truly blessed to know you!

Joyous Occasions

We often get asked by our brides what is our number one advice to make their wedding day wonderful. While we could answer “Hire us!” or “Invest in a good makeup artist” etc. My advice most often than not is to “relax and enjoy.” Simple right? So often brides and grooms spend so much of their time investing into the details of the day or what goes wrong (something always goes wrong)that sometimes you forget to just sit back and enjoy. The day goes by so fast that you will want to soak up every single minute of it and commit it to memory so when you look back, you’ll remember and say to yourself “my wedding day was full of joy and happiness and absolutely imperfectly, perfect”

Speaking of joy and happiness, last Saturday Josh and I got to witness exactly that at Sam and Brandon’s wedding. We were incredibly blessed to of been part of something very special, and because I know Sam is probably “DYING” for a sneak peek, I couldn’t resist!

My two faves of the day (both kissing shots because I’m a sucker for romance):

Looking Back

As I sit here at the computer moving the vast array of photos (over 5 tera bites or 5000 gb) worth of archived Weddings, Engagement Shoots, Trash The Dress Shoots, Family Photos, and so much more from the past few years. I stumbled across of all the photos Kenys TTD shoot. I forgot how beautiful my bride looks in her wedding dress. I have to say that I am glad that I did come across the photos as I have had several clients ask what we did for our TTD Shoot. Here are a few of the photos that I have edited. Oh Yeah, cant forget Hair and Makeup is by Sara Vickrey. Oh how I love Sara…
